So I’m a fan of John Coltrane. But he died. That was a shame. But then Pharoah Sanders came along. He played alongside JC, and then composed alongside JC’s wife Alice Coltrane. His stuff is really an extension of JC’s free-jazz/spiritual masterpiece A Love Supreme, but also so much more. I personally like Karma much more than A Love Supreme because it is simply more listenable. I have to be in a specific mood to listen to A Love Supreme all the way through, but the melody of the 32 minute track The Creator Has A Master Plan and it’s incredible psychedelic effect is incredible.
The track reminds me of the Alice Coltrane tracks that feature organ, and it’s a slow jam till about the 16th minute when the track peaks and it gets quite intense and I fling myself into a bath-tub and demand that someone throw in an electrical device. I was once playing this track on-air, went outside to have a word with Mary Jane and came in to be freaked out. I had to turn it off, not my proudest moment.
Anyway, this time I’ll be uploading the entire album. It measures in at about 60mb, and 38 minutes in length, and it is well worth it. If you enjoyed Dr. John, this may be for you.
