Post Three is a very exciting post not only because it is the third post on this here blog but because we are changing directions and going to New York after a long stint in psychedelia-inspired lands and now I will attempt to make this sentence as long as possible in a vain stab at the artistic and also to differentiate myself from those other miserable music blogs and finally so that I won’t have to get back to my studies.
The Last Poets are a proto-hip-hop group from New York City. They came out of Harlem in 1968 with a mix of spoken word poetry and stripped down jazz almost like Shirley Horn. The lyrics are quite militant, but they are all intelligent, so they aren’t Wu-Tang by a mile. Chastisement is the third album from the group, which I found by complete accident at Red Eye Records in Pitt Street (the better one) for $10. The two tracks I put up today are the most interesting on the album. The most intelligent is Bird’s Words, which tells the history of blues and jazz, and it’s definitely worth a listen.

I hope you’re enjoying the music. If you are, leave a comment. I can see how many people download the tracks, the brilliant of WordPress tells me all. Leave a comment so I can reply to something other than abuse by Ivana (check out her blog though yo!)
