So by now I should be somewhere in Mexico, travelling the deserts and the valleys, the cities and the plains, the seas and the lakes - all if I didn’t get shot in Compton when visiting to take some photos for Ivana. I should have known better to turn up in a red tracksuit. From someplace else in California is Del Tha Funkee Homosapien. He might be known to you for being part of Hieroglyphics and Souls of Mischief, but he’s also released a heap of solo albums. I think his first I Wish My Brother George Was Here is my favourite.

Anyway, Del gets points for sampling: Funkadelic, James Brown, Parliament, The Monkees, Jimmy McGriff, Donald Byrd and The Meters, and the Brother George part of the title is an obvious reference (if you didn’t know…) to George Clinton, the commander and chief of Funkadelic and Parliament.
